Healing in nature, healing ourselves and the natural world is an interdependent practice of healing. In the natural world, we encounter the ecology of place. We discoverthat creatures are linked to one another and to their surroundings. We discover a communion of subjects amongst the birds, trees, flowers, animals, bodies of water, and ourselves that is quite foreign from the collection of objects in our materialistic world.
In the natural world, we encounter a theme of interdependence, and if we connect deeply enough here, we begin to remember that we are a part of this complex ecology. We realize that in order to reduce our stress, heal ourselves, and encounter deeper levels of peace, ease, and wellbeing, we must honor our interdependent relationship with the natural world and treat it with a similar level of exceptional self-care with which we must treat ourselves. We come to understand that the natural world, like we humans, requires certain conditions or substances in order to thrive and that when living things are exposed to repeated stress, they become unwell and fail to thrive.
In reclaiming this knowing and understanding about a reciprocal and interdependent relationship with the natural world, we grow to feel a sense of belonging to something greater than ourselves. Healing in nature sustains us and the natural world.
