Self-confidence is something that most people long to have more of. According to Albert Bandura’s theory of self-efficacy, we can increase our sense of self-efficacy and self-confidence by performing tasks successfully, witnessing others succeed through sustained effort, receiving support and encouragement from others as we approach a task, and managing stress and encouraging positive mood states.
“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.” –Henry David Thoreau
You don’t have to continue to feel powerless. You really can increase your self-confidence and create a life that you love. Set achievable intentions and begin working toward them. Surround yourself with positive people who are doing what they love, and ask them what works for them. Allow yourself to receive support and encouragement from those people. Commit to a regular practice of mindfulness to reduce your stress and foster a sense of peace and well-being.
