Practicing Clear Seeing with Mindfulness

When we cultivate clear seeing, are able to see clearly what is happening in our lives and relate to our experience with acceptance, friendliness, and compassion. Being willing to see the truth of our lives requires a willingness to relate with things as they are instead of our habitual pattern of relating with things as we would like them to be.

Mindfulness as a continual practice of bringing our attention back home to the breath, to sensations, feelings, and thoughts, is a foundational practice that can keep us grounded in a commitment to see the truth of our lives and to relate with things as they are. Sometimes all that it takes is a willingness to rest in the darkness of the unknown with clear seeing.

In order to see, you need to face your fears of what you are afraid of losing. By being in darkness, you are facing the very thing that you are afraid of.

This week’s photo was created at Diane Hause’s art installation, “Eyeing the Cosmos While Astride the Abyss.” It’s a beautiful installation that explores her journey of living in the moment the night following her diagnosis of stage IV breast cancer. It’s a stunningly beautiful exhibit that encourages a sense of comfort, hope, and peace. Read more about the exhibit here, and by all means, make time to see the exhibit if you haven’t already. You can see more of Diane’s work at haustudio.com
