Being vs doing. Modern culture values doing over being. Too much doing can increase our stress and leave us feeling like we’ll never be enough.
In order to remain healthy and balanced, we need time to relax and simply be. Our culture values busyness as a symbol of importance and success, but chronic busyness can lead to a state of chronic stress, causing our physical and emotional wellbeing to suffer. Taking time to relax and be allows us to see our habitual patterns clearly so that we can grow personally and spiritually, makes room for waves of creative inspiration, and restores a sense of peace and wellbeing.
Being and relaxation are vital to our health and wellbeing. When we activate a state of relaxation, we activate the parasympathetic nervous system, or the rest and repair branch of the nervous system. It is in this state that healing and repair can occur and the body and mind reset and rebalance. Without relaxation, we are at risk for stress related illness and disease.
This week, try to make time to relax and practice being. Give up wanting anything to happen, and open to being willing to just be in this moment, and the next moment, and the next moment. Consider how being vs doing plays out in your own life and impacts your physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing.
