Everyday mindfulness is a practice of applying mindfulness attitudes and practices in our everyday life.
The present moment is filled with joy and happiness. If you are attentive, you will see it. Thich Nhat Hanh
Every day I wake up early, feed Eos, and practice yoga, meditation, and mindful writing. Some days Eos goes back to bed, but on most days, she practices yoga too. In her independent practice, she gracefully moves through Downward Facing Dog, Child’s Pose, and Sphinx, but when we’re together on our shared mat, as I move into Downward Facing Dog, she moves into Rub Back and Forth Under Mom’s Chin or Dig in Mom’s Hair.
Some days it’s funny. Today it wasn’t. I felt annoyed. I gently moved her out of the way. She wholeheartedly returned to her practice on our mat. As I was about to move her out of the way for the third time, I realized that I was feeling annoyed, yet she was feeling happy. I paused for a moment to notice what it felt like in my body, heart, and mind to experience annoyance, and then I decided to choose to return to finding the joy and happiness in the situation, and it was funny again. For the remainder of my practice, I practiced finding joy in a shared yoga practice with Eos and gratitude for this tiny little being that brings so much happiness to my everyday.
