Being and Becoming with Mindfulness

Being and becoming with mindfulness is a process of continual personal and spiritual growth. The energy of mindfulness is a soft, gentle energy related to being. The energy of wellbeing is a more active energy related to becoming. Both energies are necessary on the journey toward wholeness and wellbeing.

Some of us are more skilled at being, while others of us are more skilled at becoming. The problem lies in our attempts to substitute one for the other—when becoming, or taking action is called for, and we retreat to being from a place of fear, or when being is called for, and we retreat to becoming to avoid the stillness.

This week, try noticing the flow of ways that you are practicing being and practicing becoming. Notice which one is called for and make an attempt to answer the call to wellbeing.

Mindful journaling prompts:
How am I practicing being?
How am I practicing becoming?
What are the rewards of these practices?

They both listened silently to the water, which to them was not just water, but the voice of life, the voice of Being, the voice of perpetual Becoming.
