Mindful creative expression can support your wellbeing and facilitate creative flow. Creative energy is available to us in infinite supply, but in order to access it, we must invite it in, welcome it, and nurture it. We must create space and time in our day to honor it. If we ignore our creative muse, she ignores us, and we become at risk for spiraling back into the abyss of our unhealthy thoughts and behaviors.
As you move toward a dream, the dream moves toward you.
–Julia Cameron
If we honor our creative muse by feeding her with inspiration, we open ourselves to the limitless flow of creativity, and this limitless creative flow becomes accessible to us at any given moment. Opening to this creative flow can be one of the most life affirming, meaning making experiences you will ever encounter. Follow the slender threads of this flow, and you will open your life to possibilities that you can’t even imagine.
Take yourself on a creative pilgrimage this week in your own home or neighborhood. Be open to what calls to you or inspire you. Perhaps it’s watching birds, looking at photographs of beautiful places in nature, going to an art exhibit, walking in nature, buying a new cookbook, buying a travel magazine, or whatever else makes your spirit soar.
Spend some time this week with whatever inspiration calls to your heart. Then make some space to create–plant a garden, create a meal for your family, sew, make something from wood or fiber with your hands, paint, color in a coloring book, draw, make a photograph, write, make something with clay, write a letter to a friend, write your story, or decorate a room in your house. Stay focused on the process of creating, and try not to judge the outcome. Take note of how your body, heart and mind feel when you’re opening to the flow of creative inspiration and expression.
Warmly,
Jen
