Being Inspired for Creativity and Wellbeing

Consciously choosing to activate the energy of being inspired supports a positive mood and encourages action toward personal and career goals. Many of us create intentions and/or goals throughout the year, and a lot of us ride the wave of inspiration that comes with the beginning of a new year.

Remember that whatever we place our attention on grows, so resting our attention frequently on our intentions helps to propel us forward to take action that is aligned with those intentions. But to keep going, we’ll need to cultivate a state of being inspired. Being inspired, like most feeling states, does not fall from the sky and land in our laps. It’s something that we can actively cultivate.

We can cultivate inspiration, or any other feeling state, by engaging in activities that bring about that feeling. Start by clearing the physical, emotional and financial clutter from your life in order to make some space for inspiration. Then investigate what inspires you. A few of the more common things that may inspire include clearing the physical, emotional and financial clutter from our lives, engaging in creative expression, exploring what we feel curious about or intrigued by, taking a class, reading or viewing the creative works of people we admire, following the progress of others who are successful at what we’re attempting, practicing meditation, yoga or other spiritual practices, or looking at photographs of beautiful places.

I invite you to make some space for inspiration this week and take yourself on a creative date this week and take some time out to engage with something or someone who inspires you. Afterwards, try a mindful writing or mindful journaling practice and write about what you experienced and how it felt.
