Meditation for Peace in Difficult Times

How can we practice meditation for peace in difficult times? Lately it seems there is so much suffering in the world. How do we find our center amidst all that what is happening in the present? And how can we become more resilient during difficult times?

We can use mindfulness and meditation practice to help us to stay grounded in this moment. Cultivating a regular meditation practice helps us to find and connect with our inner still place. When we cultivate that connection, we create an inner resource that we can turn toward in difficult times.

Bringing mindful awareness to notice when we’re feeling amped up in fight or flight mode and then turning our attention to our inner still place or to the breath can help bring us back to present moment awareness, which begins to calm us. Practicing meditation for peace help us to sustain good physical and mental health and wellbeing during tough times. I try to never underestimate the power of meditation in cultivating a sense of peace.

Try bringing your awareness to the breath, noticing the rise and fall of the chest and belly with the inhale and exhale. As you inhale, try to imagine breathing in peace. As you exhale, try to imagine letting go of fear and anxiety. Try to recall a specific moment in time when you felt a sense of deep peace. Try using a mindful journaling practice to write for 5-10 minutes about the details you recall from that specific moment in time – where you were, what you saw, heard, touched, tasted, and felt.
