Stop Trying to Be Perfect

Stop trying to be perfect. In moments we become attached to wanting things to be other than they are instead of accepting what is. A part of this wanting is the craving for perfection. We create unattainably high standards for ourselves and others, and the result is that we stay stuck in fear and inaction.

Perfectionism is an attempt to keep ourselves feeling safe. The antidote to perfectionism is trust and acceptance. If we trust that we will be okay even if things don’t turn out perfectly, we can move forward to grow and build confidence from our successes and learn from our mistakes. If we stop trying to be perfect and accept our own imperfections and humanity, we create space to be more accepting of others, and we can more easily build connection and a sense of belonging. What action can you take today to propel you forward toward what matters most, even if it doesn’t turn out perfectly?

Have no fear of perfection – you’ll never reach it. –Salvador Dali
