Authenticity with mindfulness opens us to our most authentic self and authentic life.
The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are. ― Carl Jung
When we live authentically, we embrace the genuineness of who we truly are. We become willing to risk judgment, rejection or conflict, because the price of pretending to be someone whom we are not is too great to bear. In order to embrace our authentic self, we must be willing to be with ourselves in stillness and see ourselves clearly with compassion. Only then can we begin to claim our authentic being and begin to nurture it into a fuller expression. Being authentic means that we embrace our beautiful uniqueness and make choices that are congruent with our values and with what matters most to us.
For many people, the fear of rejection is so great that they make choices that are incongruent with their values in order to fit in. Some people become party girls to cover up deep insecurity and self-loathing. Or lie about who they are in hopes of being liked. Others remain silent due to fear of speaking up.
Practicing authenticity with mindfulness and embracing our authentic selves is a process. Yes, there is risk that some people won’t like us, but there is peace and freedom is being who we truly are. Just for today, pick one thing that you can do differently that allows who you truly are to come into fuller expression in your life. Then try doing it again tomorrow.
