Mindful Based Stress Reduction Course for Improved Wellbeing

September is a great time to begin a mindfulness course!  MBSR (Mindful Based Stress Reduction) is an 8-week course that teaches mindfulness meditation and gentle yoga/stretching for increased awareness and stress reduction. It’s a lovely introduction to mindfulness for new meditators and an excellent opportunity for experienced meditators to recommit to a regular practice.

Mindful based stress reduction has been shown to increase a sense of peace, happiness, creativity, and wellbeing. Research also shows that practicing mindfulness can result in decreased symptoms of stress, anxiety, and depression as well as symptoms of a number of medical disorders, including autoimmune disorders, gastrointestinal disorders, cardiovascular disorders, and physical pain.

A recently published study showed that people who are diagnosed with stress disorders (acute stress disorder, PTSD, adjustment disorder, etc) are at increased risk for developing autoimmune disorders. Stress is not caused by events in our lives; it’s caused by how we react to events in our lives. You can learn how to reduce stress and change your mindset and perspective so that you become more resilient to stressful events in your life. And let’s face it–life is filled with stressful events!

People who practice mindfulness have an easier time reaching their intentions and goals, because they’ve learned how to focus their attention, manage difficult thoughts and emotions, and keep taking action toward what matters most to them. Mindfulness practice is great for stress reduction, weight loss, helping you to be more present and connected in relationships, and facilitating a greater sense of creative freedom.
